Daytime Dietitian || Moonlight Musician

Curious about the name – Symphoneats? Well, it is comprised of two words: symphony and eats. One definition of symphony, according to Dictionary.com, is “anything characterized by a harmonious combination of elements,especially an effective combination of colors.” Of course, we are talking about a combination of foods, hence eats. Why the musical name though, you wonder? Well, actually, before practicing dietetics/nutrition, I have actually been studying and training to play classical music on the piano since I was 4 years old, practically my whole life. So there you go!

A little about myself, my name is Katherine Chen and professionally, I work as a registered dietitian. I studied at Cal Poly Pomona (BS) and the University of Southern California (MS). I previously trained at the Keck Medical Center of USC in both the inpatient setting (ICU, Neuro ICU, rehab, med surgery) and abdominal transplant (kidney, pancreas, liver) clinic with the general adult population. I also trained in pediatrics as well from the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC Children’s). Currently, I practice at City of Hope National Medical Center, LAC + USC Medical Center, and previously, Keck Hospital of USC. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, playing piano, watching movies, and eating a lot of desserts…!

My philosophy of nutrition is that it should support a good quality of life. This is relative to everyone, and no one has the same vision of what health is to them. I hope to aim for the best quality of life through the best relationship with food. It is my belief to treat your body kindly by nourishing it with healthful foods and allowing yourself to enjoy the occasional indulgences. Nutrition is not one size fits all. No matter what your goals are, I can support and guide you to reach them. I will work with you based on your personal goals, lifestyle, and preferences!
