My name is Katherine Chen, and I am a passionate and creative thinker who loves to uplift people. I am also a certified diabetes educator and registered dietitian (and also a pianist!).
I grew up in a culture that embraced the value and benefits of food. It wasn't until college that I discovered it was something I could fully explore-and that it was a science! Ultimately, I completed my studies in human nutrition and food science at Cal Poly Pomona for my undergraduate degree, and the University of Southern California for my master's degree. To become fully prepared to practice as a registered dietitian, I received clinical training and mentorship from Children's Hospital Los Angeles and Keck Medicine of USC.
Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals managing diabetes, cancer, gastrointestinal disorders, organ transplantation, and other complex medical conditions. While my clinical experience has been diverse, my passion lies in helping people make nutrition feel practical, achievable, and sustainable in their everyday lives.
Today, I am a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) with experience caring for patients across some of Southern California's leading healthcare institutions, including Keck Medicine of USC, City of Hope, Kaiser Permanente, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and LA General Medical Center.
Beyond the clinic
In addition to my clinical work, I am passionate about community health and food access. One project especially close to my heart is the Edible Healing Garden project at LA General Medical Center, which helps connect patients and community members with nutrition education, gardening, and the healing power of food.
Helping people help themselves is so rewarding to me. My priority is to empower you to have the highest quality of life through health and nutrition.
Whether you're managing diabetes, navigating a health condition, or simply looking to build healthier habits, my goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based guidance that helps you feel confident in your choices and supported along the way. I will seek to learn from you about your experiences, your obstacles, and your goals. Through understanding your individuality and interests, we will design a successful strategy together that you will feel great about. Enjoy peace of mind every time you eat!
That's a lot about me for now - I look forward to getting to know you as well!
