I'm Katherine Chen, a Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), and lifelong learner with a passion for helping people feel more confident in their health. (I'm also a pianist, which explains why I named my practice Symphoneats!)
I've always been fascinated by how things work. I love solving mysteries, understanding cause and effect, and connecting the dots. That's one of the reasons I love nutrition. Every person's health story is unique, and I enjoy helping people better understand their bodies and the choices that can make a meaningful difference.
Growing up in a multicultural environment also shaped the way I see food. It taught me that food is deeply personal. It's culture, family, celebration, comfort, and connection. That perspective continues to guide how I practice today.
I've had the privilege of caring for patients at Keck Medicine of USC, City of Hope, Kaiser Permanente, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and LA General Medical Center. Working with people facing a wide range of health conditions has reinforced my belief that good nutrition should help you enjoy life, not make it feel more complicated.
Beyond the clinic
In addition to my clinical work, I am passionate about community health and food access. One project especially close to my heart is the Edible Healing Garden that I co-created with my friends and colleagues at LA General Medical Center, which helps connect patients and community members with nutrition education, gardening, and the healing power of food.
Outside of nutrition, I enjoy playing the piano, sharing what I've learned, and I rarely turn down dessert. One of the greatest joys in my work is watching people discover they're capable of more than they thought. Helping someone gain confidence in whatever they pursue is what inspires me every day.
That's a lot about me for now - I look forward to getting to know you as well!
